As South Africa and the rest of the continent commemorate 10 years since the first and only FIFA World Cup to be played in Africa to date, and Mamelodi Sundowns legend Surprise Moriri has relived some of the beautiful memories.
It was on the 11th of June 2010 that Bafana Bafana got the historic event underway at FNB Stadium with a 1-1 draw with Mexico.

The Matibidi-born attacking midfielder – 30 years old at the time and in his prime with Sundowns – made a substitute appearance in the second match of the tournament against Uruguay at Loftus Versveld Stadium, which was his only appearance in the global showpiece.
"If I look back to 2010, especially during the World Cup, I think one thing we can take home is that the World Cup brought us together, especially as South Africans and also as Africans. Remember that the World Cup was about Africa hosting the World Cup and it was for the first time," said Moriri, and speaking to the media.

"So, it brought us all together, and also what transpired in the World Cup was very good because you could see that even the people from the outside were very surprised for how we hosted the World Cup. Prior to the World Cup there were doubts that we couldn't host the World Cup. We proved them wrong and everyone enjoyed it. Also, it was the first time that the World Cup was played with Vuvuzelas in the stadium, so those were the things that people from outside enjoyed," Moriri said.
