The 26-year-old Montpellier playmaker was named in both the Africa Cup of Nations provisional squad and the COSAFA Cup setup.
Bafana head coach, Stuart Baxter subsequently explained the reason behind it, indicating that the player wanted more game-time in order to fight for his place in Egypt.
Baxter is expected to name his final squad next month, before jetting off to Egypt for the 2019 AFCON competition.
Speaking to the media, Dolly explained further why his COSAFA Cup inclusion will be important for his participation in the AFCON.
"Since the injury with Bafana camp, I went back, I was off for a week or so, I went back to training with the team, I played like four games with the reserve team and then we decided for me to take part in the COSAFA Cup, myself and my family because it was a good decision to show the coaches my level of fitness. That was the main reason and also, I needed more game-time, especially because of the season I had, it was a bit difficult in terms of injuries and not playing as much as I wanted to, but I am excited to be part of the squad," he told SAFA.
"It all depends on how I do here, I want to get my confidence back up and give my all to help the COSAFA team and hopefully when I do join the AFCON squad I can be at my best again and make the final squad and go to Egypt and represent the country well.
"This is the first time I'm playing COSAFA and it will also be good for me to get a run in this tournament," he added.
