Bucs Striker Helps Bafana Progress To COSAFA Final

Bafana Bafana advanced to the COSAFA Cup final after defeating Comoros 3-1 on Friday evening.

COSAFA Cup

Result: South Africa 3-1 Comoros

Date: 13 June 2025

Venue: Toyota Stadium

South Africa coach Vela Khumalo made just one change from the goalless draw with Mauritius on Tuesday, as Orlando Pirates midfielder Kabelo Dlamini was recalled in place of Vuyo Letlapa.

Bafana got off to the perfect start as Kamogelo Sebelebele raced clear from a through-ball and did well to weave his way into the box before seeing his attempted cut-back deflect in off a Comoros defender on nine minutes.

The lead was doubled in the 13th minute as Gape Moralo sent Boitumelo Radiopane clear on goal with a neat pass, before the Orlando Pirates striker showed the composure to slot home, with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) confirming the strike.

However, Comoros did pull one back in the 29th minute as Ibrahim Madi latched onto a cross at the far post and unleashed a low strike which goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa was unable to keep out.

Comoros were unable to turn their momentum into getting another goal for the remainder of the first half, and they were made to rue that as Bafana added a third goal in the 59th minute when Moralo won the ball high up, which set up Sebelebele to calmly fire home with a first-time strike.

Coach Khumalo opted to freshen up the up the side for the final 20 minutes as Victor Letsoalo and Yandisa Mfolozi were introduced, with Puso Dithejane and Radiopane making way in the process.

Comoros' hopes of a comeback were dashed with 12 minutes left on the clock as substitute Naumoudine Assane picked up his second yellow card and was given his marching orders.

Bafana will face Angola in the final on Sunday afternoon.
