The All-Time Top Goalscorers In FIFA World Cup History

With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar on show at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, fans will expect to be treated to an abundance of goals. As such, here are the global showpiece's all-time leading goalscorers.

Germany's Miroslav Klose holds the record for the most goals in World Cup history, having scored 16 in 24 matches. The striker, broke the previous record in the 2014 tournament, featured in four World Cups and won the Golden Boot award in the 2006 edition.

Selecao legend Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima is second on the all-time list, having netted 15 goals in 19 matches. The Brazilian superstar, who is a double World Cup champion, represented his nation at four tournaments and was crowned the top scorer in 2002.

Former Germany striker Gerd Muller is third with 14 goals in 13 matches. He won the prized Golden Boot in his very first World Cup and four years later helped his national side lift the trophy in 1974.

Just Fontaine, a former France international, is fourth on the all-time list, having scored 13 goals in just six appearances, while in fifth place is Brazil's record goalscorer Pele, with 12 goals in 14 matches.

Others who are among the all-time leading goalscorers in FIFA World Cup history, according to Transfermarkt, are Jurgen Klinsmann, Sandor Kocsis, Teofilo Cubillas, Grzegorz Lato, Thomas Muller, Helmut Rahn, Gabriel Batistuta and Gary Lineker.
