Real Madrid missed the chance to pull clear of FC Barcelona, as they drew 2-2 with Las Palmas on Saturday evening.
Alvaro Morata was preferred to Karim Benzema in the Real starting line-up, while Marco Asensio replaced James Rodriguez.
Zinedine Zidane's charges saw most of the ball in the opening exchanges, but were unable to break the deadlock, as Javi Varas produced a couple fine saves in the opening 15 minutes.
Los Blancos broke the deadlock after 33 minutes when as Marco Asensio nodded into an empty net, after Varas had saved Nacho's left-footed strike.
The hosts pulled a goal back five minutes later as Tana was afforded time and space to shoot in the box and he curled the ball into the bottom corner, 1-1.
With Real struggling, Zidane introduced Benzema for Asensio after 60 minutes, as they look to restore their lead.
Benzema's impact was immediate, as the Frenchman was in the right place at the right to fire home from six-yards out, after Ronaldo's effort had been saved by Varas.
Zidane opted for another change after 70 minutes, this time taking off Ronaldo for Lucas Vazquez.
However, Las Palmas managed to level matters after 84 minutes as Sergio Araujo bundled the ball home from close range, after his initial effort was saved by Kiko Casilla.
Real had the chance to secure the three points in stoppage time, but Benzema side-footed the ball well over the crossbar from close range.
