After the announcement of the European Super League sent shockwaves through the continent, a number of angry Premier League clubs reportedly want the six English sides included to be kicked out of England's top flight immediately.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all announced that they will be part of the new breakaway league, which includes 12 founding members.
The news, though, has not gone down well with the rest of the teams in the Premier League, with several club chiefs said to be angry over their actions.
"Some of the other 14 Premier League clubs who are not involved in this breakaway want the six breakaway clubs to be sanctioned immediately," Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said, as per The Sun.
"They believe the sanctions should include suspension from the current Premier League season.
"So some of these other 14 clubs are so unhappy at what is happening that they want these six clubs to be kicked out of the Premier League immediately.
"One club owner has said privately that he would be prepared to leave the Premier League if they had to.
"So he is saying: 'Look, the riches on offer are so great, this is the future. Even if we were to be kicked out of the Premier League, we would still just focus on joining this new Super League.'"
A meeting of the 14 other Premier League clubs, without the so-called "top six", is set to take place on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus are the other six teams that will form part of the European Super League, while sides such as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain have insisted they will not be joining the competition.
