Premier League

Result: Tottenham Hotspur 0-3 Chelsea

Date: 19 September 2021

Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs were boosted by the return from injury of Son-Heung Min, alongside the returning Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele while the Blues were without shot-stopper Edouard Mendy, due to injury and Kepa replaced him, with Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz recalled.

Thomas Tuchel's charges were absorbing the pressure and playing on counter-attacks in the early stages and they had a big chance in the 14th minute after breaking away but Mason Mount and Romelu Lukaku failed to take responsibility.

The Lilywhites were finding their way through the Chelsea defence in a frantic game and Son went clear just after the half-hour mark, having a wonderful chance but Kepa came out quickly to make a point-blank save.

The intensity of the game slowed  down in the closing phase of the first stanza, which reduced the number of chances for both sides and the sides went to the half-time break without goals.

After a goalless first half, Thiago Silva eventually broke the deadlock for the visitors four minutes later with a powerful header from Marcos Alonso's corner.

Chelsea were forceful after that and Alonso came close to doubling their lead eight minutes inside the second stanza with a strike unmarked inside the box that was blocked off the line by Eric Dier.

The Blues eventually went 2-0 up four minutes later after Kante unleashed a speculative effort that took a nasty deflection and went in past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, off the bottom post.

Silva came close to getting the third goal in the last quarter of an hour with a flicked header at the near post from another corner by Alonso that produced an acrobatic save from Lloris.

Antonio Rudiger sealed the deal for the Blues in stoppage time with a low strike inside the box after a cut-back by Werner as Chelsea moved level with Liverpoo, who boast an identifical record after after five matches.
