After spending two seasons at Naturena coaching Amakhosi, a team that has a proven record of being the 'Cup Kings' of South African football, with no single trophy to bring home, Steve Khompela should be worrying more about his CV and his reputation as a coach.
The former Bafana Bafana captain has seen by many as the next big thing in the South African football in terms of coaching and managing players. Khompela showed signs of a coach with football brains, with regards to the way he articulates and analyses football.
However, that has not happened thus far, as we seeing the former Maritzburg United mentor struggling to get the monkey off his back and win his first trophy over a decade of a coaching career.
The charismatic coach has never won a single trophy since he started coaching in 2000, coming close thrice, reaching only three finals with Manning Rangers and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.
Having coached about four teams that have a proven record of being Cup winners, namely: Kaizer Chiefs, Manning Rangers, Free State Stars and Platinum Stars, but failed to pick up a single piece of silverware, one might say without any fear or favor that Khompela is one of the most overrated coaches that has ever coached in the Absa Premiership.
Have your say, do you think Steve Khompela is overrated?
