Portugal legend Luis Figo has revealed why he decided to leave FC Barcelona for arch-rivals Real Madrid in July 2000.
Balotelli: Why I Don't Want To Go Back To Liverpool
The player ïnfamously joined Los Blancos from the Catalan giants and was instantly seen as a traitor by the Blaugrana's fans, who subsequently booed him every time he visited the Camp Nou.
Speaking at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Berlin on Monday night, Figo explained why he left Barcelona for the Spanish capital.
"I left for sporting and financial reasons, and because I wasn't given enough recognition," Figo said, as quoted by Sport English.
The former Inter Milan star also used the opportunity to clear the record, stating that he does not have anything against Barcelona.
"I don't take any pleasure in others losing, it doesn't enrich my life or make me happy," Figo added.
"I'm a sportsman, I don't have anything against Barcelona, and it's you (the Catalan press) that have something against me. I had five great years (at the Camp Nou).
"Honestly, on Saturday I played golf, on Sunday I played golf. My life doesn't revolve around Barcelona or Madrid. I'm happier doing other things."
