Figo Defends Ronaldo Over Controversial Party
Ronaldo received some heavy criticism from some teammates and the media after having his 30th birthday party on the eve of Real Madrid's 4-0 loss to city rivals Atletico Madrid.
Figo sat down with a Spanish paper to explain why he stood up for Ronaldo, and revealed that his Portuguese compatriot needed someone to stand up for him.
"I like to be there when times are tough," Figo told Marca.
"He doesn't need you to say anything on the day he wins the Ballon d'Or.
"I'm independent and make decisions based on what I believe is right, I'll get it wrong sometimes too, as I'm not perfect."
The Portuguese legend also shared his view on Ronaldo's form this season and believes that he is fully committed to the club and his teammates.
"He's only human, it's normal for him not to score in every game. In my eyes, he looks as committed to the club and the team as ever."
Figo made 245 appearances for Real Madrid during his time at the club and is now busy running for FIFA presidency, which will be decided in May this year.
