La Liga Report: Real Madrid 4-0 Sevilla 20 March 2016
La Liga    Result: Real Madrid 4-0 Sevilla   Date: 20 March 2016   Venue: Santiago Bernabeu   Real Madrid recorded a dominant 4-0 win over Sevilla on Sunday night in a game which could have seen three or four more goals.   Los Blancos should have been one-nil ahead in only the third minute when Gareth Bale was put through on goal by Danilo, but the Welshman inexplicably looked for a pass to a marked Cristiano Ronaldo instead of simply striking.   Nevertheless, three minutes later the hosts hit the front. Bale provided the pin-point cross and Karim Benzema was on hand to smash home a stunning half-volley in his first game back following an injury lay-off.   It should have been 2-0 to Real in the 17th minute when Ronaldo met a corner kick with his head, directing it to the far post where Bale was in position to put it into the back of the net. However, the goal was wrongfully denied for an offside.   Sevilla had a chance to level matters shortly thereafter. Varane brought down Rami in the box following a free kick to gift the visitors with a penalty, but Keilor Navas made a fantastic save to keep out the spot-kick.   In the second half it was the hosts who had a penalty after Reyes needlessly fouled Luka Modric in the box. However, Ronaldo somehow managed to blaze his spot-kick over the bar.   Bale came within inches of doubling Real's lead when a corner kick found him. His header came off the underside of the bar.   The lead was finally increased in the 64th minute. Danilo sent in another excellent cross which fell for Ronaldo who placed his shot beyond Sergio Rico for 2-0.   A couple of minutes later it was three-nil. Benzema chipped a deft ball over Rico and Bale was there to poke it home, becoming the top British scorer in La Liga in the process.   Just before the end Real Madrid produced a fourth goal as Jese beat Rico with ease. He seemed to be offside, but the linesman's flag stayed down.
