Euro 2016 - Group B Result: England 2-1 Wales Date: 16 June 2016 Venue: Stade Bollaert-Delelis England came back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win over Wales in their European Championship Group B clash. The Three Lions had the first big chance of the clash in the seventh minute when Adam Lallana charged down the right and crossed into the box for Raheem Sterling, but his shot went over the bar. Wales were on the defence as Wayne Hennessey was forced into a smart save in the 26th minute. Wayne Rooney directed a free kick towards Gary Cahill but his attempt was kept out by the goalkeeper. Chris Smalling was also given a decent chance to open the scoring as Rooney provided the threat with another set-piece. Rooney found his Manchester United team-mate at the far post but he headed just wide. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 42nd minute as The Dragons took the lead. Gareth Bale produced the moment of brilliance, sending a dipping 35-yard free-kick beyond Joe Hart, who may have done better. Hennessey was called upon to make another stop early in the second half as England surged forward in search of an equaliser. Rooney made room for a shot and sent a low effort towards the far corner of the goal, but the gloveman made a top save. However, only two minutes later Roy Hodgson's charges were back level. A speculative cross was inadvertently headed on by Ashley Williams, and the ball fell kindly for Jamie Vardy who stroked home the finish. Wales came close to netting the winner in the 80th minute, but the decider arrived at the other end in stoppage time when Daniel Sturridge played a one-two with Dele Alli before netting for a 2-1 win.
