DFB Pokal
Result: Hertha Berlin 0-3 Borussia Dortmund
Date: 20 April 2016
Venue: Olympiastadion Berlin
Goals from Castro, Reus and Mkhitaryan sealed Borussia Dortmund's 3-0 victory over Hertha Berlin in an entertaining DFB Pokal semi-final clash at the Olympiastadion Berlin.
The visitors had a promising start to the clash, and began to settle as they continued to keep possession of the ball.
It did not take too long before Gonzalo Castro put them ahead with a 20th minute strike after the midfielder latched on to a loose ball before sending a gorgeous curler into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Dortmund were all over their opponents in the first stanza and looked hungry to add more goals to their tally.
Marco Reus should have extended Dortmund's lead on the stroke of half-time, but the attacker's shot was well saved by Jarstein who managed to get the tip of his fingers to the ball after some lovely dribbling from Reus before unleashing the blistering strike.
The visiting side continued with their dominance even after the restart, but it was Hertha Berlin who should have capitalized on a 64th minute opportunity which saw Solomon Kalou failing to poke a leg out to turn a strike into the empty net from a yard out following a corner.
Four minutes later, Dortmund came close, but in the 75th minute Reus was there to coolly slot in a Shinji Kagawa pass in the bottom corner to make it 2-0. Four minutes later Gundogan knocked the post after a lovely period of play.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan then stepped up as Dortmund looked unstoppable in the closing stages of the encounter, knocking in a fine 83rd minute effort that extended their lead to 3-0.
The men in yellow continued to push forward in the dying minutes of the clash but could not add more goals to their tally, the match finally ending 3-0.
