Copa Del Rey Report: FC Barcelona v Real Murcia 29 November 2017

Copa Del Rey

Result: FC Barcelona 5-0 Real Murcia (Barca won 8-0 on aggregate)

Date: 29 November 2017

Venue: Camp Nou   A second-string FC Barcelona side secured their spot in the Copa del Rey last 16 after claiming a 8-0 aggregate win over Real Murcia.   Ernesto Valverde made three changes from the 3-0 first-leg first win as Gerard Pique, Oriol Busquets and Aleix Vidal replaced Javier Mascherano, Andre Gomes and Jose Arnaiz.
Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen were rested for the cup tie once again.   After a quiet start, Barca eventually broke the deadlock in the 16th minute as Paco Alcacer headed into an empty net after poor clearance.   Clear cut chances were hard to come by for both sides in the first half, and they were left restricted to efforts from distance.   That proved to be the trend for the rest of the half as the Catalan giants went into the break leading by one goal.   10 minutes into the second half, Barca doubled their lead as Aleix Vidal surged into the box and pulled the ball back for Gerard Pique, who calmly slotted home from close range, 2-0.   It was 3-0 on the hour mark as Vidal got his name on the score-sheet by heading home Nelson Semedo's cross from the right, 3-0.   Denis Suarez got in on the act on 74 minutes. The Spaniard latched onto a fine pass from Sergi Roberto before finding the back of the net with an impressive finish, 4-0.   Five minutes later, substitute Jose Arnaiz grabbed the home side's fifth on the night and eighth in the tie with a fine finish from a tight angle.   Barca continued to threaten in the closing stages of the second half, but the score remained 5-0 on the night and 8-0 on aggregate.
