Brazil Name U23 Squad For Olympic Games, Neymar Left Out

Brazil have announced their squad for the Olympic Games, which includes 38-year-old Dani Alves, but a few big names were, perhaps surprisingly, left out.

The competition's rules state that the men's squads are allowed to include three players who are over the age of 23, but the Selecao have seemingly decided to have only two overaged stars, in the form of Alves and Malcom, in their selection.

Brazil U23 coach Andre Jardine opted to leave Neymar out of the final squad despite the Paris Saint-Germain star being named in the preliminary list for the tournament.

Other big names to miss out were Real Madrid duo Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior, as well as Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli.

Brazil were drawn in Group D alongside Germany, Ivory Coast and Saudi Arabia, and Jardine feels Alves' leadership qualities will be vital.

"Dani is a reference to everyone," he said, as per ESPN.

"He is one of the most successful players there are.

"He is going to bring experience and leadership to the team. It was a dream for him to play at the Olympics. Let's complete his resume."
