Afcon Match Report: South Africa 1-2 Ghana 27 January 2015

Bafana v Ghana

Africa Cup of Nations - Group C   Result: South Africa 1-2 Ghana   Date: 27 January 2015   Venue: Estadio de Mongomo   Bafana Bafana crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations after losing 2-1 to Ghana in their final group C clash.   Bafana survived a couple scares early on, with Brilliant Khuwzwayo failing to hold onto a routine shot, before Eric Mathoho cleared an effort off the line.   However, it was Shakes Mashaba's side who took the lead, as Masango showed great control, before volleying the ball the home from 20-yards out.   Khuzwayo was then called into action in the 33rd minute, as the Bafana shot-stopper did well to keep out Abdul Rahman's powerful volley from the edge of the area,   Bongani Ndulula came close to doubling the lead in the 39th minute, the strike rose well before seeing his header palmed away by Brimah Razak.   Bafana were on the back foot for large parts of the second half, as Ghana continued to search for the equaliser.   And the Black Stars eventually got their equaliser in the 73rd minute, as defender John Boye curled a low effort past Khuzwayo from six-yards out.   Ghana eventually sealed the win in the 84th minute, as Andrew Ayew headed the ball beyond the on-rushing Khuzwayo.   Avram Grant's men will now join Algeria in the quarterfinals.   Here's how they lined up:   South Africa: Brilliant Khuzwayo, Anele Ngcongca, Thabo Matlaba, Rivaldo Coetzee, Erick Mathoho, Dean Furman (C), Andile Jali, Mandla Masango, Thuso Phala, Tokelo Rantie, Bongani Ndulula   Ghana: Brimah, Afful, Rahman, Amartey, Mensah, Acquah, A. Ayew, Wakaso, Atsu, Gyan, J. Ayew   View The AFCON Group Standings
