Afcon Group A Match Report: Burkina Faso 0-2 Gabon 17 January 2015

Afcon Group A Match Report: Burkina Faso 0-2 Gabon 17 January 2015
Africa Cup of Nations - Group A   Result: Burkina Faso 0-2 Gabon   Date: 17 January 2015   Venue: Estadio de Bata   Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Malick Evouna handed Gabon a 2-0 win over Burkina Faso in their opening 2015 Afcon clash.   View The Group A Standings   It was an evenly contested affair in the opening exchanges, but Burkina Faso had the first meaningful effort on goal, as Bertrand Traore forced Didier Ovono into fine save in the 13th minute.   However, it was Gabon who took the lead in the 19th minute courtesy of fine finish from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, after he had initially missed a one-on-one chance.   The Gabonese goalkeeper was out to frustrate the Stallions and he did just that, pulling off a fine reflex save in the 30th minute to keep out Pitroipa from close range.   The opening periods of the second half failed to provide any goal-mouth action from either side, with both sides lacking the that final ball.   Frédéric Bulot had the opportunity to double Gabon's lead in the 63rd minute but the Standard Liege forward failed to troubled Sanou from six-yards out.   While, at the other end Ovono was called into action a minute later, this time denying Bertrand Traore with a instinctive save with his feet.   Bulot made up for his poor effort, as he picked out Malick Evouna with a delightful cross and the forward thumped a header into the far corner to give Gabon the lead in the 73rd minute.   Burkina Faso continued to search for a consolation in the closing stages but could not bypass the Gabonese defence.   Here's how they lined up:   Burkina Faso: Sanou, Koffi, Koné, Bambara, Yago, D. Koné, Kaboré, B. Traoré, Alain Traoré, Pitroipa, Zongo   Gabon: Ovono, Palun, King, Ecuele Manga, Obiang, Poko, Madinda, Ndong , Evouna, Bulot, Aubameyang   View The Afcon Fixtures   Burkina Faso's next Group A clash against Equatorial Guinea on 20 January 2015, will be broadcast on SuperSport 4 at 18h00.
