The 13-time European champions were dominant in the first leg of their quarter-final against the Reds, with Vinicius Junior scoring twice and Marco Asensio also finding the back of the net to inspire Real to a 3-1 win.

With the Santiago Bernabeu under construction, Real have been playing their home fixtures at the Alfredo Di Stefano training ground complex, a venue Klopp did not appear to like too much.

After the clash, the German said he found the evening "strange", but remarked that Anfield is "at least a proper stadium and that will be good for us".

Despite the Liverpool manager's comments causing quite a stir, Zidane seemed unwilling to engage in a potential war of words, saying: "I don't have an opinion about what Jurgen says, we are proud to play in this stadium," according to the Daily Mirror.

Speaking about the upcoming second leg in England, the Frenchman urged his team to continue in the same vein.

"Liverpool is the opponent and we know they are going to leave all they have on the pitch, I have no question about that," Zidane added.

"We just need to be ready and it is going to be a very good second-leg match. We will need to do the same thing in the second leg.

"We are happy with the result, but we have won nothing. We are happy with the performance and what the players have done is huge after a lot of difficulties in our season.

"There is a long road ahead and we are alive. Today is the first leg, but we'll know we'll have a second leg and our idea is to think that we go into that and the result will be 0-0."
