Teams: Liverpool v Atletico Madrid
Date: 18 February 2020
The Reds progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League after topping Group E ahead of Napoli, Red Bull Salzburg and Genk, and will be favourites heading into Tuesday's clash against Atletico, who ended as runners-up to Juventus in Group B.
Heading into the match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is without the injured Xherdan Shaqiri and Nathaniel Clyne, while Atletico count Joao Felix, Hector Herrera and Kieran Trippier among their wounded.
Prior to Tuesday's encounter, Klopp was quick to praise Diego Simeone's side and revealed that the LaLiga outfit posed a genuine threat to his team on the counter-attack.
"If there is a team where you have to be at your best in all departments, it's Atlético," Klopp said ahead of the match, as reported by UEFA.
If you don't play your very best, you have no chance. [They are] a real, proper machine. They close you down with two or three players, turn you around and counter-attack."
Atletico: Oblak; Vrsaljko, Savic, Felipe, Lodi; Koke, Thomas, Saúl, Lemar; Correa, Morata.
The return leg of the Round of 16 tie between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid will be played on 11 March at Anfield.
