UEFA Champions League
Result: Manchester City 2-1 Napoli
Date: 17 October 2017
Venue: Etihad
Goals from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus were enough to hand Manchester City a 2-1 win over Napoli in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
Sterling found the opening goal for Pep Guardiola's troops in the ninth minute with a simple tap in following a cross by Kyle Walker inside the box.
Jesus extended the lead to 2-0 four minutes later with a tap in of his own at the back post with City exerting their dominance with free-flowing attacking football.
Dries Mertens missed a penalty for the visitors in the 38th minute with Ederson's trailing leg keeping his spot-kick out.
There could have been more goals from the Citizens but the first stanza ended 2-0 to the hosts.
The tempo of the match slowed down a bit after the hour-mark, with City not in a rush to bomb forward as was the case in the first half.
Amadou Diawara reduced the deficit to 2-1 for Maurizio Sarri's charges in the 73rd minute through a penalty.
The visitors were dangerous on counter-attacks after 85 minutes with City unrelenting with their attacking intentions.
However, Guardiola closed shop in the last five minutes withdrawing striker Jesus in favour of a more defensive Danilo to maintain their 100% record this season.
