UEFA Champions League Report: Borussia Dortmund v Paris Saint-Germain 18 February 2020

Result: Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Date: 18 February 2020

Venue: BVB Stadion

A star-studded Paris Saint-Germain outfit went down 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 clash on Tuesday evening.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe returned up top after sitting out Saturday's entertaining 4-4 draw with Amiens SC, as the hosts went with the same side that overcame Eintracht Frankfurt.

There has only been one other continental involvement between the two sides which came in the UEFA Europa League 2010/11 group stages that saw both fixtures ending all square.

PSG threatened first after Neymar fired a curling free-kick wide of the right-hand post following the opening ten minutes, as the match started to open up.

Jadon Sancho posed all sorts of issues with third-man runs in and around the final area whilst Dortmund charged from the left side –with Layvin Kurzawa scrambling to adapt.

PSG got the second half going with neither side introducing any set of changes, whilst attempting to hit the front-foot early on.

The Ligue 1 side however battled to get going following the resumption, as Dortmund put Keylor Navas to work following the 58th minute.

Ten minutes later, Dortmund found the breakthrough after Erling Braut Haaland stabbed home a loose ball following a rebound off Raphael Guerreiro's shot seconds later.

PSG managed to restore parity on 75 minutes when Mbappe picked out Neymar with a square ball for the Brazilians to slot home.

However, Haaland restored Dortmund's advantage two minutes later when he received a ball from Reyna to nestle into the top left corner-giving Navas no chance to complete his brace.

PSG should've gone level again in the remaining minutes, but Neymar hoofed a loose ball over the top as Dortmund drew first blood in the two-legged tie.
