UEFA Champions League
Result: Juventus 2-1 Real Madrid
Date: 05 May 2015
Venue: Juventus Stadium
Goals from Alvaro Morata and Carlos Tevez handed Juventus a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie on Tuesday night.
Los Blancos were without the services of Karim Benzema and Luka Modric, while the influential Paul Pogba missed out for the Italian side.
The home side got off to the brighter start and deservedly opened the scoring in the ninth minute when former Madrid striker, Alvaro Morata, tapped into an empty net, after Tevez's effort had been saved by Iker Casillas.
Madrid nearly hit back in the 12th minute through Toni Kroos, but the midfielder's effort from distance was parried away by Gianluigi Buffon.
The defending Champions eventually leveled matters in the 26th minute when James Rodriguez did well to pick out Cristiano Ronaldo, who nodded home from three-yards out.
Madrid should have gone ahead in the 40th minute when Isco picked out Rodriguez in the area, but the Colombian headed onto the crossbar from point-blank range.
Atfer a slow start to the second half, things livened up in the 55th minute when Juventus were awarded a penalty after Dani Carvajal brought down Tevez, who stepped up and converted the spot-kick to restore their lead.
Carlo Ancelotti responded by introducing Javier Hernandez shortly after Juve's goal, while Massimiliano Allegri brought on defender, Andrea Barzagli.
The hosts were presented with an opportunity in stoppage time from a set-piece but Ferando Llorente failed to trouble Casillas with a header from three-yards out.
Nonetheless, Madrid failed to bypass a resolute Juventus defence in the second half and have it all to do in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
