FC Barcelona have one of the heaviest wage bills in football despite the massive debt they have too. As a consequence, it will not surprise many that Lionel Messi is the top earner left in Europe's elite club tournament this season, with an annual salary of €46 million (R814 million) after tax and excluding bonuses.
The Argentine is followed by his former teammate Neymar, who is currently sidelined with injury but is understood to pocket €36 million (R637 million) a year at Paris Saint Germain.
Ronaldo completes the podium with a yearly income of €31 million (R548 million) at Juventus.
