UEFA updates its rankings for European club competitions after every round of Champions League and Europa League action, and recently published the final ranking after the 2019/20 season was completed.
Real Madrid have been overtaken at the top after leading the ranking following the 2018/19 campaign based on their strong performances in Europe between the 2015/16 and 2017/18 seasons, when they won the Champions League in three successive campaigns.
However, their early exits in the knockout rounds over the past two seasons have seen them being overtaken by 2019/20 UCL winners Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga giants have collected 136 points over the past five campaigns, two more than second-placed Los Blancos.
Further down the ranking is 2018/19 Champions League heroes Liverpool, who climbed to 10th place. The Reds' overall score suffers from the fact that they did not take part in a European competition in the 2016/17 season, when they collected a score of zero for that campaign.
As a consequence, bitter rivals United are one spot above Jurgen Klopp's side, beating them with 100 points to 99.
Overall, Spain have four representatives in the top 10, followed by England with three, while Germany, Italy and France each have one club among the highest-placed teams in the UEFA ranking – you can see the full top 10 by scrolling through the gallery above!
Note: The results are calculated based on each club's ranking points amassed over the past five seasons. Each team gets points for how far they reach in European competitions, with points from the Champions League having a bigger weighting than points collected in the Europa League.
