After his sending off in Real Madrid's 2-1 UEFA Champions League loss to Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night, captain Sergio Ramos equalled an unwanted European record.

Despite taking the lead through Isco early in the second half of their round of 16 first-leg clash, Los Blancos found themselves 2-1 down by the 83rd minute.
Gabriel Jesus scored the equaliser in the 78th minute after beating Ramos in the hair with a well-timed header, before Kevin De Bruyne struck City's match-winner from the penalty spot five minutes later.

To make matters worse, captain Ramos was given his marching orders three minutes later after pulling Jesus down on the edge of the box, which was his 26th sending off as a Los Blancos player.
The 33-year-old has also now been shown a red card four times in the Champions League, a record he shares with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edgar Davids.

As a result, the Spanish giants will be without their defensive stalwart for the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium, with City's two away goals giving them a great chance of progressing through to the quarter-final stage of the competition.
