After scoring in Napoli's 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw with FC Barcelona on Tuesday night, Belgium forward Dries Mertens followed in Diego Maradona and Marek Hamsik's footsteps to make history for the club.

Mertens opened the scoring for Napoli in his side's Champions League round of 16 clash with Barca on Tuesday, finding the back of the net within the opening 30 minutes of the match.
Upon scoring, the 32-year-old made history with Napoli by becoming the club's joint all-time leading goalscorer of all time, alongside Hamsik, with 121 goals across all competitions to his name.

Hamsik, who is also the Italian outfit's most-capped player ever, has held the goalscoring record since December 2017, when he overtook Argentina legend Maradona's tally of 115 goals for the club.
Mertens looks set to break the Slovakia international's record in the coming weeks, but his tally is unlikely to grow much further, with his affiliation to the club expected to end when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

The 2016 Belgian Footballer of the Year joined Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in 2013, and has achieved his record goalscoring tally in 310 appearances for Gli Azzurri.
