The Spaniard won 30 trophies as a player and coach at Camp Nou, and will return as a hero when Bayern meet the Catalans in the Champions League semi-final first-leg.
Of the previous eight contests between the two European giants, Barcelona have only won one, while losing five and drawing two.
Barcelona celebrated their only success against the Germans when the Catalans eliminated Bayern in the Champions League quarter-finals during Guardiola's first season as head coach.
The tie back in 2008/09 was basically over after the first-leg when Messi (brace), Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry netted an unanswered four goals and Barcelona progressed 5-1 on aggregate.
Guardiola went on to guide Barcelona to a final victory and claimed an unprecedented sextuple that year.
Bayern, however, took revenge in the most recent meeting when Jupp Heynckes' side thrashed Barcelona 7-0 on aggregate in 2012/13.
Bayern went on to win their most recent European Cup in that year, as well as the first treble in the club's history.
