An official treble is considered to be the lifting of a country's top tier league title, the primary domestic cup and the major continental tournament, all within a single season.
The first European treble was won in 1967 by Scottish giants Celtic, who had claimed the Scottish Football League, the Scottish Cup and the European Cup titles.
Overall, seven European teams have won the treble, namely: Celtic (1966/67), Ajax Amsterdam (1971/72), PSV Eindhoven (1987/88), Manchester United (1998/99), FC Barcelona (2008/09), Inter Milan (2009/10) and Bayern Munich (2012/13).
On Sunday, Bayern became only the second European side to claim a second treble, with Barcelona achieving the milestone in the 2014/15 campaign.
Five of the players that were part of the successful Bavarians squad that won the treble in 2012/13 have claimed it again this season, while Eto'o became the first footballer to win the treble twice.
The former Barcelona striker won his first with the Blaugrana in the 2008/09 season, and his second in the following campaign with Inter Milan.
To date, the Cameroonian is still the only player to secure back-to-back trebles, as well trebles with two different clubs.
