Supercoppa Italiana Report: Juventus v Napoli 20 January 2021

Result: Juventus 2-0 Napoli

Date: 20 January 2021

Venue: Stadio Città del Tricolore

Cristiano Ronaldo got on the scoresheet as Juventus were crowned Italian Super Cup champions with a 2-0 victory over Napoli on Wednesday evening.

Juve made four changes to the side that suffered defeat to Inter last time out with Gianluca Frabotta, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot and Alvaro Morata the ones to drop out.

Napoli made just one change from their 6-0 thumping of Fiorentina with Elseid Hysaj making way for Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Napoli won a corner in the fifth minute and at the near post Kostas Manolas flicked his head to the ball, which zipped just over the corner of post and bar.

No surprises that Ronaldo got Juve's first proper chance, shooting from distance only to see his deflected shot go wide.

In the 28th minute, Diego Demme's cross was met by a diving header from Andrea Petagna on the six yard line, but the Wojciech Szczesny made a fantastic reaction save to his left.

Ronaldo then had a go from an angle at the edge of the box, sending a dipping, bending shot just past the far post in the 39th minute.

Federico Bernardeschi replaced Federico Chiesa for the second half for Juventus.

Manolas nearly scored at the wrong end when Ronaldo's low cross from the right hit the Napli player's shin and luckily flew away.

From the resulting corner, the ball deflected off Tiemoué Bakayoko's arm and fell perfectly for an unmarked Ronaldo, who hooked the ball in from close range.

Napoli responded as Dries Mertens replaced Andrea Petagna. Ronaldo then caught Di Lorenzo high on the body and earned the first booking of the night.

Napoli won a penalty in the 75th minute after Winston McKennie clipped Mertens, but captain Lorenzo Insigne pulled the ball to the right of the goal while Szczesny dived the other way.

Szczesny pulled off a brilliant save in stoppage time to deny the Neapolitans and Juve countered, with Cuadrado racing through on goal before unselfishly knocking the ball around David Ospina and into Morata who tapped into an empty net with the last kick of the game.
