Result: Sampdoria 0-2 Juventus
Date: 30 January 2021
Venue: Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris
Juventus registered back-to-back Serie A victories after seeing off Sampdoria at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris on Saturday evening.
Bianconeri manager Andrea Pirlo made two changes from the side that beat Bologna the last time out in the league, as Alvaro Morata and Federico Chiesa were both recalled, with Federico Bernardeschi dropping to the bench while Dejan Kulusevski was suspended.
The sides were going at each other in the opening exchanges but the Old Lady drew first blood in the 20th minute after Chiesa dispatched a through ball by Morata inside the box.
Pirlo's charges were gaining momentum in the closing phase of the first stanza as Cristiano Ronaldo came close twice in quick succession to double the lead for the visitors just before the break but his two efforts missed narrowly over the bar.
Samp were threatening to get back into the game in the early stages of the second stanza and Fabio Quagliarella came close to snatching the equaliser ten minutes inside the second stanza with a header inside the box that missed narrowly over the bar.
Morata thought he had doubled Juventus' lead just before the hour-mark after latching onto Ronaldo's pass inside the box and fired a strike past shot-stopper Emil Audero but his goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a marginal offside.
The game was getting scrappy in the closing phase, with Claudio Ranieri's men pushing Bianconeri in their own half searching for the equaliser but Aaron Ramsey sealed the deal for Juventus with the second goal in stoppage time after tapping in Juan Cuadrado's cut-back from a counter-attack.
The Old Lady moved up to third on the log with 39 points, seven points behind leaders AC Milan with a game in hand.
