Serie A Report: Lazio vs Atalanta 30 September 2020

Result: Lazio 1-4 Atalanta

Date: 30 September 2020

Venue: Stadio Olimpico

Lazio had a night to forget at the Stadio Olimpico after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Atalanta in Serie A action on Wednesday night.

There was just a single change from the Eagles' side that overpowered Crotone in Felipe Caicedo, as Mario Pasalic, Berat Djimsiti, Jose Palomino and Ruslan Malinovskyi returned for the visitors.

Lazio suffered a set-back in the 11th minute after a tee-up from Duvan Zapata picked out an un-marked Robin Gosens for an easy tap-in for the opening goa.

Lazio were caught flat again two minutes after the half-hour mark when Hans Hateboer popped up at the far post to side-foot Gosens' pin-point supply into the roof of the net.

Then nervous defending from La Dea gave Ciro Immobile a presentable opportunity following a ball from the left, but the forward hit the woodwork with Caicedo unable to turn in the follow-up.

Atalanta immediately regained control and fired in a third goal four minutes to halftime after Alejandro Gomez brought down Zapata's cutback to nestle the bottom corner from close-range.

Substitutions from either side following the start of the second half saw Djimsiti entering in place of Cristian Romero on the side of La Dea while Lucas Leiva made way for Danilo Cataldi.

Lazio were given a lifeline on 57 minutes after Caicedo showed sharp instincts at the near post to help Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's floating delivery into the net.

La Dea wiped out any thoughts of a comeback four minutes thereafter when Gomez completed his brace after rattling the top corner with a thumping strike from point-blank range.

The Eagles still refused to give up but nearly let in a fifth off Luis Muriel's snap attempt later on, while La Dea marched to an emphatic victory.
