Serie A Report: Inter Milan v Juventus

Serie A Report: Inter Milan v Juventus

Result: Inter Milan 2-0 Juventus

Date: 17 January 2021

Venue: San Siro

Inter Milan moved level on points with Serie A leaders AC Milan after defeating rivals Juventus 2-0 on Sunday evening.

Bianconeri made four changes from the thumping win over Sassuolo, as Giorgio Chiellini, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot and Alvaro Morata were all recalled while Inter welcomed back Ashley Young.

Cristiano Ronaldo thought he had opened the scoring for Juventus in the 11th minute after tapping home a volleyed pass from Federico Chiesa but his goal was disallowed for offside.

The hosts went ahead a minute later after Arturo Vidal powered a home a close-range header against his former side following a cross by Nicolo Barella.

Antonio Conte's charges came close to doubling their lead in the 23rd minute after goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny parried Romelu Lukaku's shot in the path of his strike partner Lautaro Martinez but the Argentine blasted his shot over the bar.

Andrea Pirlo's men were probing for the equaliser in the closing phase of the first stanza but they could not break down a disciplined Inter side, who were dangerous on counter-attacks, forcing saves out of Szczesny and Conte's troops went to the break leading by an odd goal.

Inter had another quick start in the second stanza after Barella doubled the lead seven minutes after the break with a strike into the roof of the net after a through ball by Alessandro Bastoni.

Martinez came close to putting the game to bed for the hosts in the last 20 minutes after getting past Chiellini but his curling strike missed the far post by inches wide.

Bianconeri were desperate to get back into the game but they lacked the cutting edge in the final third, with shot-stopper Samir Handanovic hardly tested.

However, Inter were able to see out the win to go level on points with leaders AC Milan, who are in action on Monday while Juventus remain in fifth spot.
