Result: Genoa 1-3 Juventus
Date: 13 December 2020
Venue: Stadio Luigi Ferraris
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace on his 100th Juventus appearance as the Old Lady claimed a 3-1 victory over Genoa on Sunday.
Juventus were pinning Genoa in their own half, but were unable to fashion a significant opening at goal in the opening period.
In the 24th minute, Weston McKennie dragged a shot to the far post after interchanging with Federico Chiesa, but he was unable to tuck it into the far corner while putting it just ahead of an oncoming Cristiano Ronaldo.
While Genoa were doing well to soak up the pressure, Rolando Maran's side had shown absolutely no ability to counter-attack thus far.
Paulo Dybala found the opening for the Bianconeri in the 57th minute and his first goal of the season was a timely one, giving his team the lead after getting on the end of McKennie's reverse header down the right wing before bringing it into the penalty area and sending Perin the wrong way, tucking it neatly in the bottom corner.
The hosts equalised four minutes later. Marko Pjaca cut inside from the left wing and passed to Luca Pellegrini, who looked up and floated a cross to the far post. Stefano Sturaro got up unmarked and stabbed a volley past Szczesny from an acute angle.
Juve won a penalty in the 75th minute. Juan Cuadrado beat Nicolo Rovella for pace and got into the penalty area, forcing the defender into a mistimed sliding challenge. Ronaldo stepped up and sent Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin the wrong way.
The Bianconeri won another penalty in the 88th minute. Pellegrini played an awful pass back to Perin, inviting Morata to latch onto it. The goalkeeper came off his line and flailed at the ball, making clear contact with the striker to bring him down. Ronaldo did the honours to cap his 100th Juve appearance in fine fashion.
