Napoli have officially renamed their stadium in honour of the late Diego Maradona.

Following the passing of the Argentine icon, there was talk the Serie A side wanted to rename their stadium.
The Municipality of Naples has now officially revealed that the venue will be renamed the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, per AS.
The 1986 FIFA World Cup winner, who died at the age of 60 due to heart failure, was instrumental in helping the Partenopei to their only two Scudetto wins in their history.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had already given his backing to the move to rename the stadium, and the Naples city council came to a unanimous decision to approve the motion.
A statement from the municipality read: "Shortly before the executive committee meeting, the advisory commission for city toponymy had approved the proposal of the mayor, the councillor for toponymy Alessandra Clemente and the city council, naming the Stadio San Paolo after Diego Armando Maradona with the name Stadio Diego Armando Maradona."
Napoli also confirmed the news on their website, stating: "SSC Napoli is delighted by the resolution signed by the entire City Council in dedicating the now former San Paolo Stadium to Diego Armando Maradona."
