The 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner is edging closer to the expiration of his stay with Bayern after joining the club from Real Madrid on a two-year loan deal in July 2017.
The Bundesliga giants have the option of making the former AS Monaco star's stay in Munich permanent for a fee of €42 million (R686 million), but that decision will be left to coach Niko Kovac, according to the club's president Uli Hoeness.
However, Rodriguez's father-in-law Hernan Ospina has claimed the 27-year-old wants to link up with former Los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli.
"James Rodriguez would like to play in Italy and, of course, at Napoli," he told Radio Kiss Napoli.
"My daughter Daniela told me that he has a great relationship with Carlo Ancelotti and would be happy to reunite with him.
"I think he would one day like to play in Italy and, of course, at a big club like Napoli. All Colombian players would like to have an experience in Serie A.
"The appeal of the championship has increased a lot since the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus."
The attacking midfielder, who still has two years left on his contract with Real, will reportedly return to the Santiago Bernabeu upon the expiration of his loan deal with Bayern.
