Gennaro Gattuso's men beat Roma 4-0 in a Serie A encounter on Sunday with an inspired performance, wearing a jersey launched by the club to pay homage to Maradona, who passed away last Wednesday.
Initially, it was thought that the kit was designed and launched following Maradona's death, but Napoli have released a statement with Kappa in which they said the kit was always going to be launched on matchday nine.
"Our hope was that Diego would be able to see it, perhaps even wear it and share in our excitement about it," the club said in the statement, according to Football Italia.
"The Kombat jersey that the players will don tonight (on Sunday) will have an even greater significance than initially intended."
The last-ever match Maradona attended at the Stadio San Paolo was a match between Napoli and Roma, which is believed to explain the club's preparations for wearing this jersey this weekend.
Maradona boasts legendary status at Napoli for his achievements with the club from 1984 to 1991, during which he celebrated five trophies, including two league titles.
The Argentine, who will always be considered among the greatest footballers of all time, tragically suffered a fatal heart attack on 25 November at the age of 60.

To further immortalise the 1986 FIFA World Cup winner, Napoli will also reportedly rename their stadium the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
