Zinedine Zidane: Why Gareth Bale Wasn't In Final Real Madrid Squad

Zinedine Zidane: Why Gareth Bale Wasn't In Final Real Madrid Squad

After making headlines for his much-criticised title celebrations, Gareth Bale was snubbed for Real's squad for their final LaLiga game of the season, and manager Zinedine Zidane later explained why the Welshman was left out.

Bale missed Real's final LaLiga game of the campaign against Leganes, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The result did not change much for Los Blancos, who had already secured the league title, but it saw Leganes being relegated.

After the game, Zidane explained the absences of James Rodriguez and Bale, who received a lot of fan backlash for his subdued title celebrations last Thursday, from the matchday squad.

"With James , you already know what's happened," the Frenchman said, as quoted by Marca, referring to the Colombian's request to be left out.

"Bale's absence was a technical decision, nothing more."

Eden Hazard also missed the game, with Zidane confirming that the Belgian winger is once again struggling with an injury.

"I think Eden had little (injury) problems recently because, when he finished playing (against Villarreal), he had problems; he didn't end well," he explained.

"I hope that, with this break, he can completely recover.

"Those that know about this, about looking after players, will try to get Eden well again."

Real will now have a two-week break before facing Manchester City in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie on 7 August, when they will need to overturn a 2-1 defeat.
