Los Blancos have told their players they will not make any signings in the current transfer window, according to Marca.
General manager Jose Angel Sanchez addressed the squad and informed them there will be no signings due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Real decided to recall some of their best-performing on-loan stars, namely Dani Ceballos, Andriy Lunin and Martin Odegaard.
The latter was on a two-year loan at Real Sociedad, but Zidane reportedly personally requested his return 12 months into the deal.
Odegaard, who is now valued at €45 million (R922 million) by Transfermarkt, joined the Spanish giants as 15-year-old in 2015, when he was considered by many to be one of Europe's brightest talents.
However, he has had to bide his time and go on three different loans – to Heerenveen, Vitesse Arnhem and Sociedad – before convincing the chiefs at Real he is ready to star for their first team.

It is understood that Sociedad and Odegaard himself were surprised by Real's decision to recall him, and the Norwegian sent an emotional farewell message to the club's fans.
"Hello Txuri-urdin family. I would like to send you a message to say goodbye and also to say thank you for what has been an unforgettable year for me," the player said in a video message the club published on their website.
"I've enjoyed some great times at Real Sociedad, from the day of my presentation, my first goal for the club, the team ending in the European places and making the Copa del Rey final.
"I will never forget all of the love and affection you showed me every day during my time here.
"The moment has arrived for us to say goodbye, but in me, you have a txuri-urdin forever. Farewell and long live Real Sociedad!"
