The Italian tactician is poised to leave the Santiago Bernabeu for the second time in his career come the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Rumours of the 64-year-old's potential departure from the Spanish capital have been circulating since last season already, and it seems Los Blancos have given themselves the ongoing campaign to potentially find somebody suitable to succeed the four-time UEFA Champions League winner.

His former player and now Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has been hotly tipped to be his replacement, but according to Cadena SER, the record European champions are also seriously considering luring Brighton Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi to the club.

The Italian manager took the reins at the Amex Stadium following Graham Potter's departure to Chelsea last year, and the Seagulls faithful have taken to the Brescia native very well, with the club having enjoyed a brilliant start to the latest Premier League campaign that sees them currently in third place on the log, behind only leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.

Last season, De Zerbi led the south coast side to a sixth-place finish in the English top flight, and now has them competing in their first-ever UEFA Europa League campaign too.

Brighton have become accustomed to losing their best players, and now with a rumoured £11.2 million (R262 million) release clause in their manager's contract, they could potential lose De Zerbi too as Los Merengues are said to be massive admirers of the former Sassuolo manager's work.
