The 2023/24 campaign has been an unusual season for the Croatian playmaker as, unlike ever before at the Santiago Bernabeu, he now seems to be a less prominent figure in the manager's plans.
It is believed that when his contract was coming to an end last season, he asked that his deal only be renewed on the premise that they still believe in him as a starter, but so far that has not been the case, with manager Carlo Ancelotti having started him in only four of the nine games they have played across all competitions.
This has caused tension between Los Merengues and the Zadar native as it is believed that he does not want to be relegated to a role in the team where his main responsibility is to mentor his successors in the middle of the park.
According to Sport, it is for this reason that the 38-year-old is considering a move away in the January transfer window.
It is said Modric believes he is still in good condition and thinks he can still contribute in a big way to helping the team win, but his lack of minutes seemingly have him looking elsewhere for more playing time.
The record European champions are reported to be adamant that the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner will see out the remainder of his current deal.
The same report, however, does suggest that Inter Miami and Saudi Arabia still harbour ambitions of signing him.
