The Spanish giants experienced a turbulent campaign in 2018/19, during which they changed their head coach three times.
They spent more than €300 million (R6 billion) to freshen up a squad that had won four of the past six UEFA Champions League trophies available, but a lot more money could go into their new strongest line-up next season.
According to Marca, president Florentino Perez is targeting a "new Galacticos" side by 2022, which earmarks 20 years of his reign at the club, over two stints.

The Real supremo wants to sign Kylian Mbappe as his new superstar, but is prepared to wait for his arrival. Coincidently, Mbappe's contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in 2022, and Real could attempt to sign him on a free deal then.
It is also claimed they will try to buy him in 2021, when he will have one more year left on his deal, but they do not want to sacrifice their relationship with Paris Saint-Germain over the Frenchman.
However, Perez has reportedly other names on his wish list too, with Erling Haaland targeted as a new main striker. The 19-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund in January, but Real are seemingly already keen to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Martin Odegaard, who is out on loan at Real Sociedad this season, could play an important role in the potential Halaand transfer as they are international teammates with Norway. Odegaard himself seems ready to finally be part of Zinedine Zidane's set-up after going out on loan to a number of teams over the past few seasons.
At the back, a long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos needs to be found, with RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano having been suggested as a potential target, while Zidane reportedly remains keen to build his midfield around Paul Pogba.

African Bundesliga sensation Achraf Hakimi is also set to return from his two-year loan spell at Dortmund, and Los Blancos have high hopes he can continue his fine form when he represents his parent club next season.
