Amid ongoing speculation linking Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe with a mega-move to Liverpool, a remarkable claim has been made that the world's most valuable footballer could, in fact, join the Reds for free.
Mbappe has been strongly linked with a move away from PSG in recent times, with reigning European champions Liverpool and LaLiga giants Real Madrid said to be battling it out for the signature of the forward valued at €180 million (R3.6 billion), as per Transfermarkt.
According to the latest from Spanish publication AS, PSG will not entertain any offers for the 21-year-old star despite failing to agree to a new contract with the player, and are willing to risk letting him leave for free at the end of his current deal.
Mbappe's contract with Les Parisiens runs until the end of the 2021/22 season and, provided he does not sign a new deal, suitors will be able to approach him to discuss a pre-contract agreement – or Bosman deal – as early as January 2022.
It is claimed further that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a keen admirer of the former AS Monaco wonderkid and, having just signed a new deal to stay at Anfield until 2024, is likely to bide his time in a bid to snap the Frenchman up for free.
Mbappe is currently the leading goalscorer in Ligue 1 this season with 19 strikes, and won the league's Golden Boot award for the 2018/19 campaign after netting 33 goals for the Parisian club.
