A former Real Madrid player, who, at the time, became the most expensive player from his country when he joined the club, has been arrested in connection with a drug trafficking ring in Spain.

Edwin Congo was on the books of Los Blancos between 1999 and 2002, but never actually featured in an official game for the Spanish giants.
His most successful stint came at Levante, helping them achieve two top-flight promotions, while he also played for Real Valladolid and Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal, among other clubs.
The 43-year-old, who recently worked as a TV pundit for El Chiringuito, was detained this week by the Central Narcotics Brigade, as reported by Marca.
The Colombian, who still features for Real's "Legends" team, was released on the same day after giving a statement.

It seems he came away with just a warning after being pictured with people connected to a cocaine trafficking ring.
"The police have told me that I have to stay away from people who do me no good. That I had to be aware of things, do them differently," he told Marca.
"They asked me if I have something to do with cocaine trafficking. I have nothing to do with it. Like every human being, you look for activities to make a living.
"I have tried to generate a life of work through this friend, who is the one with the link."

Congo joined Real in 1999 for a fee of €5 million (R100 million), which made him the most expensive Colombian footballer ever at the time.
