Before the end of the 2022/23 campaign, the veteran tactician was touted to become the first Italian manager to lead the Selecao, with the former Juventus and AC Milan boss having been heavily tipped at that time to take the job when the aforementioned season was over.
Ultimately, the 64-year-old opted to see out the remaining year on his current deal with Los Merengues, while the record FIFA World Cup champions hired Fernando Diniz on a one-year interim basis.
Ancelotti's future at the Santiago Bernabeu still remains up in the air, but the prevailing school of thought is that the four-time UEFA Champions League-winning boss is still the favourite for the Selecao role, something that does not please Romario.
The former Barcelona attacker won the 1994 FIFA World Cup with Brazil, but is vehemently against the appointment of the Reggiolo native.
"Actually, here's the thing. First, I want to congratulate Ednaldo [Rodrigues], who is president of the CBF [Brazilian Football Confederation], he chose Diniz well. He's the best coach we've got," the 1994 FIFA Men's Player of the Year told Brazilian news outlet O Globo.
"He [Diniz] doesn't have time to do with the national team what he does at club level, which is his forte, training, getting these players together, he does what he can.
"He's drawn and lost the last two games, nobody always wins.
"But I can say that, in my opinion, in my humble opinion, the Brazilian national team is in great hands with Diniz.
"F*ck Ancelotti.
