After Cristiano Ronaldo labelled Wayne Rooney "jealous" following criticism from his former teammate, the Derby County boss cheekily brought Lionel Messi into the conversation when he was asked about it.
'City Tricked Man Utd Into Signing Ronaldo'
The ex-England international was recently critical of Manchester United's re-signing of Ronaldo when he featured on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football as he sat alongside Jamie Carragher to discuss several football-related matters.
Rooney's analysis was that the Red Devils need younger and hungrier players, seemingly leading his former colleague to call him "jealous" in the comments section of his latest Instagram post.
The Derby manager then responded in a recent press conference by suggesting that being envious of Ronaldo is a feeling many footballers share, except for Messi.
"I'd say there's not a football player on the planet who isn't jealous of Cristiano Ronaldo," he said, according to Manchester Evening News.
"The career he's had, the trophies he's won, the money he's earned.
"The six-pack, his body. I think every player bar Lionel Messi is jealous of Cristiano."
Rooney and Ronaldo played together at United between 2004 and 2009, where they formed one of the most dangerous attacking partnerships of the Premier League era.
Together, the Englishman and Portuguese forwards celebrated seven trophies, including three consecutive league titles between 2006 and 2009, and the UEFA Champions League crown in 2008.
