The leading FC Barcelona presidential candidate has claimed that he has already spoken to Manchester City about their interest in Lionel Messi.
Victor Font is reportedly the favourite to be sworn in as Barcelona president in January 2021, after Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned from the role in October amid major backlash.
Unfortunately for Blaugrana fans, it was under Bartomeu's presidency that Messi became unhappy, and attempted to force a move away from the club in the previous transfer window.
While a few clubs were claimed to be interested, Manchester City appeared in pole position to land the Argentine's signature, and rumours suggest that the Premier League club could still be after the 33-year-old ahead of next season.
Font, however, said in a recent interview that he has already told Ferran Soriano, City's CEO, that Messi will not be going anywhere.
"I have already told Soriano to forget about Messi, to look for someone else to win the Champions League, because Messi will continue with us and will win the Champions League here," he said, according to Barca Universal.
Speculation that Messi could join City ahead of the 2021/22 campaign intensified when Pep Guardiola signed a contract extension in England last week.
The Argentina captain has still not committed his long-term future to the Spanish giants, and thus could leave the club as a free agent next year.
