The Belgium international joined Inter at the beginning of this campaign after signing from Manchester United for a reported club record fee of €80 million (R1.2 billion), and has already hit the ground running with two goals in two games.

Lukaku's early-season form has seen him emerge as an early contender for the Italian top flight's Golden Boot, and a former Nerazzurri star has backed him to beat the likes of Ronaldo to the award.

Speaking to Juventusnews.eu, former Inter midfielder Andy van der Meyde shared his view that the former Red Devils star is perfectly suited to Italian football, and can "easily beat" Ronaldo to the presitigious piece of silverware.

"Lukaku is a fan of Italian football and I think he's made for this competition," Van der Meyde said.

"He is strong and can score many goals. He has a very powerful physical structure and this will put all Italian defences in crisis.

"Lukaku can easily beat Ronaldo. He has always shown that he knows how to score wherever he has played, he is a pure centre-forward, while Cristiano plays most of the time out wide."

The 26-year-old will also be in competition with the likes of veteran striker Fabio Quagiarella, who won the award last season after scoring 26 goals for Sampdoria.
