According to Globo Esporte, the 24-year-old could have the armband removed because of his lack of discipline when playing for Brazil.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) were reportedly annoyed with the yellow card Neymar received against Uruguay in a recent FIFA World Cup qualifier, which saw him being suspended for his country's next qualifying fixture against Paraguay.
They were also said to be upset that he decided to leave the squad rather than stay and support the Selecao.
It is believed the CBF are considering appointing a more mature captain to lead Brazil as the Blaugrana forward has shown a few moments of inexperience while representing his country.
Many fans were taken aback when the Barca player was appointed as skipper for his country in 2015, with many believing he was nowhere ready to take on that role of responsibility.
