Why Brazilian superstar Neymar was dropped by Nike last year has now has reportedly been revealed.
According to International Business Times, the world-famous sportswear manufacturer parted ways with the Paris Saint-Germain forward in August 2020 and did not give a reason for the decision at the time.
It is claimed that Neymar, who was Nike's ambassador in South America, was among the brand's highest-paid athletes before his sponsorship contract ended.
Nike, in a statement released on Thursday, has now stated that they ended their partnership with the former Barcelona man after he did not co-operate "in a good faith investigation" launched by lawyers hired by the company.
"Nike ended its relationship with the athlete because he refused to co-operate in a good faith investigation of credible allegations of wrongdoing by an employee," it read.
It is alleged that the allegations against Neymar came after a Nike employee claimed that the footballer tried to force her to perform sexual acts on him in a hotel room in 2016.
Neymar was reportedly in an intoxicated state at the time, and was said to have chased the Nike employee down the hotel corridor while undressed.
The player, through a spokeswoman speaking to The Wall Street Journal, has denied the accusations made against him.
