The Brazilian's finish against Real Sociedad on Saturday in their La Liga clash was his 50th strike in his Barcelona career so far, and it took just 87 games to reach the half-a-century mark - whereas Messi took 119 games to achieve the same feat.
The 23-year-old former Santos forward has been in sublime form in recent weeks, scoring six goals in as many games - against Espanyol, Getafe, Cordoba, and Sociedad in the league, and against Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Neymar was replaced by his manager against Sevilla last month, with his reaction causing quite a stir after he showed his displeasure at Luis Enrique's decision, but the Brazil captain has responded superbly with recent performances.
Since his arrival at the Catalan club in 2013, Neymar's goal figures have increased at a rapid rate, smashing his 27-year-old colleague's ratio after 50 goals.
This season, Neymar joined an illustrious list of star players to hit 30 goals in a single season for the Spanish giants, putting himself up there with the likes of Ronaldo de Lima, Rivaldo and Samuel Eto'o.
